Silverado to get GM's new 2.7l turbo

Expected to arrive in the fall of 2019, the Silverado 1500 will be getting GM's new 2.7l turbo engine. With 310hp and 348lb-ft of torque, this is a 22% jump over the 4.3l V6 it replaces. This engine was designed specially for trucks and peak torque is delivered from 1,500 to 4,00rpm. As gasoline combustion engines continue to see these kinds of improvements, the days of diesel may be numbered.

Exciting times as this is the first of its kind in a pick-up. It wasn't stated here but that 2.7L is a 4 cylinder.
If there's anything that'll get more of the average folk to buy a pick-up, this efficient setup will do it.
Do you think Ford will follow suit eventually?

Smaller turbocharged engines is the way the industry is heading as a whole. Ram has opted to go the route of mild hybrid systems and Ford is looking to do the same. Aside from how great larger Hemi engines sound, they really aren't necessary for the average owner. We've shifted from a race in power to a race for efficiency.

I just hope they don't restrict our ability to tune and get more power from these because the potential is their.
Over time however, it will become more challenging for aftermarket to find ways around OE systems.

I'm a little surprised that Ford took so long to bring the Powerstroke to the F150. I know there we're a lot of people who had it on order for more than a year and ended up cancelling their order and coming over to the Silverado instead. They are just now starting deliveries.
